The next time you’re tempted to reach for a snack, try asking yourself, “Could I actually be thirsty?” Many of us mistake thirst for hunger, thinking we want food when what our bodies really need is a drink of pure water. So we overeat, and leave our bodies still thirsting.

Proper hydration is one of the keys, not only to staying fit and healthy, but to looking and feeling our best, as well. Find out what Dr. Cousens, a renowned nutritionist, has to say about the connection between water and health. We also offer you a great formula for energizing the water you drink. It’s all here:

If you avoid dehydration, you can avoid overeating. As Dr. Cousens says, “When you start to hydrate by drinking enough water, then your appetite goes down because you’re actually fulfilling what your body needs—which is water. And that’s also a very powerful way to lose weight, but also, in a sense, the hydration makes everything, including your brain, work a lot better.”

Having regular water fasts really makes you more in tune to hydration. I know when I need water and I know when I don't eat food. The surprising thing is that you don't need much food, alot less than must think. But are carnal nature probably prefers food. It tastes good, gives us temporary satisfaction and we put are trust in it.

I'm hungry and thirsty right now. I need both. But this is totally true and I often find myself not drinking hardly anything in the day.

My housemates will think I've really lost it if I'm going around the kitchen saying "wait, could I actually be thirsty?"

The moon water recipe seems interesting. Has anyone tried this? I wonder if benefits are more of a placebo effect than a true physical difference. Other than that, I think it's definitely a good thing to drink a few glasses of water before eating. To be truly hydrated, your urination must be clear everyday for an entire month. Crazy, right? We better start drinking a lot more water...

I've begun fasting once a month just so I can remember what actual hunger feels like.

And what is interesting, is the hunger I feel at the end of a fast is about the tenth of what I feel when I take a bite of, say, a salty snack on a regular day.

The compulsion to eat another chip dwarfs that of what my body puts out after 36 hours of no food.

Very true! when our stomachs demand attention, sometimes liquids are sufficient. Down some water or juice, wait a while, and see if you're still hungry minutes later. If so, by all means - eat something!

The real key is eliminating man-made foods.

Elimate Bread/Gluten based items as well as refined sugars.

These lead to symptoms such as Leaky Gut Syndrome that keep your stomach perpetually damaged and will confuse your system w/ things such as hunger.

Rotate your protein sources and minimize grains if possible.

You'll notice an entirely different sense of satiety when eating and you migth shed a few pounds in water weight and fat at the same time ;)
