Would everyone stop supporting one side or the other? Really, they're both acting like a bunch of children. Israel and Palestine both think that that land belongs to them and only them. If they weren't radicals, fundies, terrorists, and assholes on either side, they form some sort of secular state for both of them to share, and they'd live in harmony with eachother. Yet, so many think religion is more important than civility towards one's fellow Humans.

Of course, all nations have a right to defend themselves. No nation is obligated to tolerate terrorist attacks on itself.

Still, after this latest round of military conflict between Hamas and Israel is concluded, Israel is going to have to sit down and negotiate with the Palestinians and the other Arabs if it wants to attempt to avoid further outbreaks of violence.

Gaza is a cramped, crowded urban area, with some more rural farms and villages, and Hamas is entrenched in areas where people actually live. That results in inevitable civilian casualties.

Those deaths and injuries are not what the Israelis are hoping to achieve. They want to inflict casualties on Hamas' officers and soldiers and to inflict damage on Hamas' terrorist infrastructure.

The whole situation is tragic and ridiculous. You'd think we as a species would have learned by now that you cannot achieve peace through war. The only thing ever achieved by war is death and subjugation. There has to be a better answer.
